House 5 provides a specialised secure environment to meet the individual needs of moderate to severe dementia sufferers as well as those who require an increased level of clinical care. These increased care needs are met by increased staff.
There is an enriched lifestyle programme including one on one activities designed specifically for each resident. A Montessori culture and environment supports and promotes resident well-being.
“Day guests” from our other wings who have increasing dementia needs also flourish in this environment of specialised dementia programs.
It is secure and completely self contained unit with rooms arranged in a “cluster” design around a central sitting/dining and kitchen area where residents naturally congregate. It also has a smaller lounge area, a large retro look activities room and an outside garden balcony area with sunshade canopy and outdoor furniture.
The 16 single bed rooms are the same size and layout as Houses 1-4 and furnished and maintained to a similarly high standard. As in Houses 1-4 each room has fitted carpets, curtains and a private en-suite bathroom, and again residents are encouraged to use their own familiar furnishings and effects.
Accreditation surveyors and others have remarked on the uniqueness of the accommodation in an area more often characterised by laminex and a “clinical” atmosphere.
