A brief history of Fairway Hostel

From ‘Then’ to ‘Now

Virtual Tour Activities Room

Fairway Hostel is a not-for-profit 62 bed residential aged care facility operated by Sandringham Aged Care Association Inc (SACA).

A group of local citizens formed SACA in 1991 to lobby and address the need for a quality aged care facility in Sandringham.

The original building was arranged in three single storey ten bed residential wings (Houses 1 to 3) around central communal lounge and dining areas.

A new wing (House 4) with an upper storey secure dementia unit (House 5) added a further 32 beds in 2004. These new areas are similar in layout and aesthetics to the rest of the facility.

In 2015 a dedicated activities room with a state of the art theatre system was opened, as well as a physio room that is home to the Tai Chi and exercise groups. A make-over of the Board Room has provided a home to the Bingo enthusiasts several days each week.

2017 will see the start of building works that include a restructuring of reception and other office areas, construction of two new resident rooms and relocation and set-up of the café.

The building displays innovative and visually striking architecture with vaulted ceilings and highlight windows providing a spacious and airy environment with generous natural light and views to garden and courtyard areas. It is decorated throughout in contemporary colours and style, and, with input from an interior designer, the décor is constantly being renewed and up-dated to keep pace with current trends.

A car park on site which includes two disabled spaces has reserved spaces available for visiting family and friends.
